Darryl Williams, born in San Diego, began playing the bass guitar at the age of 13, by 15, he was performing with several local bands, at high school dances, as well as local clubs and had the privilege to perform with gospel singer Shirley Ceasar. At the youthful age of 19, Darryl did a four-month tour of Japan with a popular San Diego band. Upon returning from that Far East tour, (1989), that same band did a tour opening for R & B vocalist Al Green. When the tour ended, Darryl enrolled at San Diego State University and studied in their Jazz Program under Jazz pianist, Rick Helzer and bassist, Gunner Biggs, then went on to study with several world-class bassists including Bob Magnusson, Cecil Mcbee Jr., Chris Conner and Marshall Hawkins………………….That Was Then.

By the age of 21,Darryl was a recognized performer on the San Diego scene. He became a sought after, in demand, session bassist. Because of the great diversity of San Diego’s music scene, he became fluent in several musical styles, from, R&B, Funk, Jazz, Gospel, Latin and Country. Some of the artist he performed with while in San Diego was, Hollis Gentry (Fattburger, and Larry Carlton saxophonist), Patrick Yandall, T Fox, Reggie Smith, Janice Edwards (former Parliament vocalist), Kamau Kenyatta, Charles McPherson Jr., Rob Whitlock, Daniel Jackson (San Diego Jazz icon) and several others………………That Was Then.

In 1997,Darryl moved to Las Vegas where he has performed with several name acts including Las Vegas Headliner, Clint Holmes, Skip Martin (lead vocalist for Kool and the Gang), Ghalib Ghallab and many others. He was also one of the first call bassist for visiting artist at the world renowed, Blue Note Jazz Club.
He has performed at several of the best-known venues on the Strip such as The Bellagio, The Venetian, Paris, Mandalay Bay, Planet Hollywood, and Caesars Palace. For nine years, he served as the Musical Director for the International House of Blues, Blues School House Program, ……………That Was Then.

He has performed and toured with several great recording artist including, Lou Rawls, Angela Bofill,Chico Freeman, Chaka Kahn, Celine Dion, Howard Hewitt, Tevin Cambell, Kieth Washington, and has sat in with Victor Wooten, while he was on tour……………………..That Was Then.

On June 28th, 2007,Darryl released his first solo CD entitled, That Was Then, which is currently spinning on radio stations all over the country including the Smooth Jazz Cable Network (check his news page). While promoting his current release, his most recent events have been with Allison Williams, Michael Grimm, Ronnie Foster, Clint Holmes, a Benefit Show with Ray Fuller, Brenda Russell, and Euge Groove, also, he is currently touring with Euge Groove…………….This is Now.
